Why can't i open a .jpeg sent using k-9 mail to my latop?

My brother has sent a photo to my email address, he sent it using the k-9 mail app from his phone, it has come through as a .jpeg however, whatever i try i cant open it. I am running Windows 7. I am not a techie so please, if you can help, step by step please. Many thanks
